FIRST AID KITS IN THE WORKPLACE

No one wishes for accidents that require first aid to happen, but the reality is, they can occur at any time. From minor incidents like kitchen knife cuts or scratches from falls, to more serious situations such as severe burns from fires or acute allergic reactions, emergencies can strike unexpectedly.

Having a fully equipped and up-to-date first aid kit at home or in the workplace not only helps you handle urgent situations more effectively but can also save lives when every second counts.

The regulations regarding the provision and use of first aid kits in the workplace can be summarized as follow.

First aid kits must be placed in visible, easily accessible locations and be clearly labeled. The number of kits must be appropriate to the number of employees at the work site.

For example

Workplaces with up to 25 people require at least one Type A kit.

Workplaces with 26 to 50 people require at least one Type B kit.

Workplaces with 51 to 150 people require at least one Type C kit.

Each type of kit includes specific tools, differing only in quantity, based on Ministry of Health guidelines.

For instance, Type A, B, and C kits all typically contain items such as adhesive tape, gauze rolls, rubber tourniquets, bandage scissors, blunt forceps, examination gloves, saline solution, antiseptic fluid, safety pins, first aid instruction cards, protective goggles, cervical collars, etc. with quantities tailored to the kit type.

In addition, employees designated as workplace first responders must meet health requirements, participate voluntarily, and undergo certified emergency response training provided by Preventive Medical Centers. They are required to complete at least 12 hours of hands-on first aid training, covering essential skills such as handling electric shocks, burns, suffocation, cardiac arrest, bleeding control, wound dressing, patient transportation, and chemical-related accidents.
